Quality of life, adequate care and good treatment of the elderly, a basic right.

Summary

– Improvement of the quality of life of the participants in a significant way.
– Improvement of physical and psychological health, their social relationships, and their interaction with the
environment.
– Key factors strengthened: – Physical autonomy. – Rationalization of their condition as older adults. – Strong
self-esteem, body acceptance and spirituality.
– Improved sleep quality and ability to concentrate. Improved interaction with their territorial and home
environment.
– Trained caregivers: empowerment as care professionals, acquisition of skills linked to the recognition of
their rights as workers, their care and management of personal risks and those of their users.
– Training: 250 Caregivers, 25 Trainers
– 80 trained Personal Assistants,
– 75 Scholarships awarded:
• 15 Scholarships in Humanization of Health and Social Intervention. (Spain – online – Uni.Ramón Llüll)
• 35 Scholarships for “Improving Care for the Elderly”
• 20 Scholarships for the course “Basic principles of humanization of care for the elderly”
– 660 people participated in physical exercise workshops.
– 448 people participated in intergenerational workshops.
– 118 elderly people participated in vegetable garden and floriculture activities.
– 25 Care Teleclinics were implemented – 80 beneficiaries.
– The Dependency Care curriculum of the National Integrated Care System was updated.
– The Diagnostic Study of the needs of vulnerable elderly people in the Metropolitan area was developed.
– 3 work guides for workshops and teachers were produced: physical exercises, intergenerational ICTs,
orchards (Active Old Age Collection).
– In October 2017, the National Meeting of the Elderly was held, with the participation of around 500 people
from all over the country.

  • Recreational activities and workshops for the elderly.

Components and Activities

  • Training of personnel dedicated to the care of the elderly.

  • Promotion of activities to promote Active Aging focused on programs and actions linked to their health and well-being: “Physical activities”, “Intergenerational workshops with high school students from Canelones and San José: use of new technologies, intergenerational solidarity, self-esteem and empathy” and “Orchard and floriculture activities. Improvement of motor skills and development of social relations”.

  • Strengthening of the continuous training of caregivers and personal assistants through Care Teleclinics (together with Projeco ECHO): tutorials and virtual advice at the national level.

  • Carrying out a diagnostic study of the situation of the elderly in the departments of Canelones and San José.

  • Workshops in local communities and compilation of good practices on care services.

  • National meeting with older people participating in the project (Montevideo).

  • Scholarships for training in care and humanization of health and social intervention.
